Slate is a metamorphosed shale. Shale is made of silt and clay and is similar in composition to sandstone except that the particle size is much smaller. When shale is subjected to heat and pressure, the fine particles are melted together to form slate.

These stone tiles are calibrated and flat backed for easy handling and installation.
