Otherwise, Building\u00a0Regulations do not apply to buildings\u00a0constructed prior to 1 June, 1992.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ventilation is the supply of fresh outside\u00a0air and the removal of stale indoor air to or\u00a0from spaces in a building. It normally\u00a0comprises a combination of purpose-provided ventilation and air infiltration. The purpose provided\u00a0ventilation may be provided by\u00a0natural or mechanical means.\u00a0Air Infiltration is the uncontrollable air\u00a0exchange between the inside and outside of a\u00a0building through a wide range of air leakage\u00a0paths in the building structure.\u00a0Purpose-provided ventilation is the\u00a0controllable air exchange between the inside<br \/>\nand outside of a building by means of a range\u00a0of natural and\/or mechanical devices.<\/p>\n<p>The means of ventilation should be\u00a0capable of providing a satisfactory indoor air\u00a0quality for human respiration in occupied areas\u00a0of a building by\u00a0rapidly diluting pollutants, including\u00a0odours, and water vapour to levels\u00a0which do not pose direct or indirect health<br \/>\nrisk. Removing excess water vapour from areas\u00a0where it is produced in significant\u00a0quantities, such as kitchens, utility rooms,\u00a0bathrooms and shower rooms so as to\u00a0reduce the likelihood of creating conditions\u00a0that support the growth of mould, harmful<br \/>\nbacteria, pathogens and allergens.
